If you’re planning to go into one of the many speech pathology positions, it’s very important that you take a look at not only your goals, but also your own personality. Here are a few of the top personality traits you need to ensure that a speech therapy career is the best fit for you.

Patience. In order to be successful in your speech therapy career, you need to be able to take a step back and allow your patients to work at their own pace. Without patience, you will not be able to see any significant improvement – especially if you’re working with a patient that is starting at ground zero, perhaps a stroke victim who must relearn speach completely.

Understanding. Regardless of which one of the speech pathology positions you choose to enter, you will need to have a very understanding outlook on life. Many of the patients that you see won’t be able to communicate their needs very well. This will be very frustrating – for you and for your patient. However, always remember that it is a lot harder for the patient.

Team player. In most cases, your patients will probably need more than one type of therapy. In order for the treatment to be as successful as possible, you will need to communicate and work well with all the other therapists and doctors on the case. This isn’t always easy, but without coordination between doctors there will be no results.

One of the most important things to remember as a therapist is that you must not express frustration around the patient, which is why all three traits are necessary.

Home-based businesses are on the rise because it is easier than ever to market and sell products to a large number of people because of the Internet. Most home-based businesses use the Internet for advertising and selling their goods and services. You can start your own business, too. You just need a good idea and then a solid plan to put your ideas into action.

The hardest part of owning a home-based business is stabilizing it so that you have a steady influx of money. In order to stabilize your business, start by setting your business up right and then creating a budget and daily plan.

Home-Based Business Ideas

offering services like accounting

selling crafts and sewing projects

photography services

cake decorating

flower arranging

painting and graphic design services

writing services

The success of all of the ideas listed above is based on the amount the person who owns the home-based business is willing to do. It takes a lot of dedication and drive to make a business succeed and become stable. You can sell almost anything and offer almost any service from a home-based business. With hard work, that home-based business could grow into something unimaginable and stable.

Once you know what product or service you are going to offer, you should set up your business, while keeping costs in the back of your head. Utilize services on the Internet like business websites, Metrofax email faxing, free business email accounts, VOIP services and more.

Home-based business usually start a little shaky because it takes some time to get used to the ups and downs of owning a business, but once your home-based business is stabilized, you should start to see some profits.

After a résumé and cover letter, an interview is a company’s best chance to meet with you as an applicant and determine your eligibility or desirability for an open position. A job interview is very important and can make or break your chances of being hired. Here are three tips on preparing for a job interview.

Dress the part.

A job interview is your chance to make a good first impression and what you wear can help shape that impression. Dress professionally and somewhat conservatively for the interview. Jeans and a T-shirt are good for everyday life and maybe even the job you are interviewing for, but for an interview, dress to impress.

Practice what you will say.

Don’t go into an interview with a predetermined script or a rehearsed speech. Just have an idea of what you want to say about yourself beforehand instead of struggling to think of something on the spot. Try to come up with answers to difficult questions like “Why should I hire you?” that don’t involve “Um…” and staring at the floor.

Be ready for anything.

This is rather vague. It’s difficult to predict what anything might be. But, for example, what if the interview takes place in a café or some similar setting? You might not want to fumble with cash when buying a drink. Use something simple like a debit or prepaid credit card. Spend time trying to impress your interviewer instead of counting bills. As hard as it may sound, just try to be ready for the unexpected.

Job interviews are often somewhat stressful. But being prepared, going into the interview ready for whatever you may face, can make the experience a lot easier.

For people who decide to look toward the financial industries for a career, one segment that they often look at is the Forex industry. With about $4 trillion moving through the global currency market each day, it is a fast-paced open-all-hours extravaganza.

There are various types of jobs in the Forex industry along with a variety of specialties. For example, one could work as a FX trader with a specialty in emerging markets. These types of positions require both a college degree and several years of experience in direct trading. Another type of trader is a FX options trader.

Image via Wikipedia

To get an idea if this is something you might enjoy, it is helpful to look at online brokerage accounts, such as UFX Markets, that have educational information on their websites. Learn about the various currencies that are traded. Train yourself to watch the news and see how current events can affect world currencies. Regularly read publications and books on the subject. A good start is the Wall Street Journal.

Obtaining a college degree is a requirement for most positions in the Forex industry. To be considered by one of the larger investment houses obtaining an MBA or PhD is a good idea. Furthermore, a strong technical background in math, engineering and/or physics is helpful for some positions.

As is the case with most degrees, remember that an education will only take you so far. You have to get a pulse for the industry by good old-fashioned hands-on training. Set up an account with a brokerage that lets you use “pretend” money to test trades. Live, breathe and eat Forex until it becomes second nature.

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy—which is why the office costume party was invented. You may be the boss’ right hand man, but no matter how seriously you take your job, even you like to escape who you are once a year into the world of the Green Hornet, Iron Man, or Bob the Builder.

Much like our children sit in class not paying attention to the teacher because they’re considering what they want to be for Halloween, we too find ourselves in our offices wondering what we should be when the office costume party is near at hand. Sometimes we have in mind something right from the start and it is simply a problem of gathering the right materials or finding a place that sells scaly leotards and white contact lenses. In other cases our imaginations may be stuck in the project on our desks and we need a little help coming up with something creative. In either case you are generally helped by looking online.

The first place you should search is a place that sells costumes for Halloween. There are plenty of options out there and plenty of ideas that will set you apart among your co-workers. Many shops sell more than just costumes. They may also have accessories that will also make you stand out—say, a severed head or some extra fingers.

Whatever you decide on, remember this is time to escape and be someone (something?) else and have a good time.

The job market can be a frustrating place even in the best of times. Applicants are often hard pressed to find occupations that allow them to shine while giving them a sense of fulfillment. Now that the market has tightened in some areas, some job seekers are having a tough time. Taking the time to do the necessary research will show that there are always companies in need of skills at various levels.

How to Find a Job

Naturally, any job seeker should have certain basics covered. These include an updated resume and the right educational qualifications. With these in hand, the search for companies looking for workers can begin. Steps for seeking employment are:

Check the classifieds: This still works today. Many companies use these listings to get the attention of job seekers.

Attend job fairs: These events are excellent opportunities to speak directly to company representatives. It is a great way to network and make useful connections.

Job web sites: These sites post information from companies looking for workers. You never know when you might find something that suits your skills.

Trade publications: These offer valuable insight into where companies and industries are heading.

Use resources like Canada 411 to find businesses to which to send resumes.

Companies are sometimes very careful about where and when they post job information. Sometimes they want to avoid being inundated by job applications. Many companies start the weeding process before the first interview with personality tests, so be prepared. You should keep in mind that finding companies with job opportunities sometimes takes effort, but is well worth the time spent searching.

It happens to everyone at some point in life. Some unexpected expense pops up in between paychecks and you don’t have the money on hand to pay your expenses. If you have money in a savings account, you can use this money to tide you over. If not, you have to turn to alternative methods of obtaining the money you need to pay your bills until your next paycheck comes. Here are some options if that happens.

Payday Loans

Payday loans permit you to borrow against your future income. In this case, you are borrowing against the income you expect from your next paycheck. Payday loans have taken a modern route in online payday loans, so you can handle everything from beginning to end with your computer and internet access. Typically, online payday loans are a short-term option that covers your needs between paychecks and allows you to pay off the loan with your next check.

Charge It

A second option is to charge your expenses on your credit cards. Credit cards can provide a quick and easy way to pay for the expenses in between paychecks, but you also can rack up much higher interest rates than payday loans. In addition, if you do not pay off the charged amount, you end up paying more in interest than you need to for the short-term loan.

Borrow It

Sometimes a friend or family member will allow you to borrow the money. While they may not charge you interest on the money, if there are any problems in paying back the money, it may end up ruining a relationship. Sometimes, it is better to keep your personal relationships and financial needs on separate levels.

There is a difference between interrogating and interviewing. While the former is designed to pull out reluctant answers, the later is based on free-will.

Many interviewers recruiting resources become interrogators rather than interviewers. They ask personal questions that attack the privacy of the interviewee. So what are these interrogating questions? Here are they.

How was the relationship between you and your manager in the previous company?
This is not an interview question at all. Yet, there have been numerous instances when this question was asked to an interviewee. It is clear that people leave their bosses, and not their companies, then why ask this question?

What are your personal strengths and weaknesses?
If this is related to a job, then it’s OK. But when it comes to one’s personality, it is not OK at all. Nobody has a right to ask another person’s personal strengths and weaknesses. And that too in an interview for a job. Human resources professionals can instead conduct a personality test for a position. They could later use some statistical methods to arrive at a score.

Tell me something about your family
Heck! Even though this is a personal question, it’s still asked by many human resources professionals. Why do you want to know about a person’s family? Isn’t it OK to know about the person who applied for the job? People still do not understand why this question is asked so widely in interviews. Probably there could be a reason for it. But it’s not interviewing, it’s interrogation.

The world of business is very dynamic and changes at an alarming speed. In such a scenario, you should either build your resume in such a manner that it will help you progress in your career without any difficulty or you focus on resume building when employed. There was a time when an individual could either study or work.

Today, employers are prepared to finance the education of a talented employee. Internal growth options are present where the individual get promoted within the organization. Apart from these promotions, one should focus on value addition by improving ones educational qualification.

Resume building is not just about getting better degrees. It is also important to highlight your experience in the best manner possible. Is there anything in your resume that highlights you as an unbeatable and irreplaceable individual? If not, your target should be to achieve such a goal.

Of course, this is not something that will take place in a single day. However, you will be required concentrated effort for more than a year before you can safely say that you have built up your resume in an impressive manner.

The best resume is that which you will never need to use. You should focus on your contacts and networking in such a manner that your personal touch should be enough to fetch you the best job. Going in for a formal application process should be resorted to only when you are certain that the job will be yours no matter how tough the competition is. That is the level you should try to achieve when you are building your resume.

When you have your own business, bookkeeping is extremely important. If you don’t keep good records, you can get yourself into quite a bit of financial trouble. On top of that, not keeping good records can cost your your business.

There are many options to keeping your finances straight. Keep a spreadsheet of your monthly finances. If you got a payday loan in the beginning to help boost your finances, don’t forget to add this into your spreadsheet to keep track of payments. Keep all invoices and receipts. Having a filing cabinet is a good option for this. Many people today are also starting to scan these receipts into their computers, so they have a hard copy and a digital copy saved.

When you are getting together your system for bookkeeping, remember to do what works best for you. Spreadsheets may not work as well if you are more comfortable with pen and paper. If this is the case, make sure to keep a written record of every cent that goes in and out of the company.

Make sure to keep your personal money and business money separate. You don’t want to spend money from your checking account just to find out that your business is short this month because of it! Having separate accounts will make keeping track of your business finances much easier.

You may find that you want to hire an accountant to do your bookkeeping for you. Keep in mind that this will cost extra, and it’s not always cheap. In the end, if it is what is best for your business, it may be what needs to be done.

In today’s job market, it can be difficult to know exactly with potential employers are looking for in the candidates that they hire. While you can be reasonably certain that you fit the bill if your resume secured you an interview, there’s still the problem of creating the resume in the first place. The best way to make sure your resume gets you a call in is to ensure that you have named those skills which are most in demand.

The words ”social media‘ have become a highly recognized term in most areas, and for good reason. Advertising and marketing by use of social media tools like Twitter and Facebook has grown immensely since 2008. Knowing your way around these tools in a business capacity has the potential to secure you a spot in any Internet-savvy corporation.

A great deal of a business’s work can now be conducted over the Internet, and that’s why web development, networking, virtualization and cloud computing are such hot buzz words. If you are familiar with any of these processes, mention it somewhere in your objective or summary. Even if your potential employer isn’t looking for those things, you will at least let him know that you are technologically up to speed.

Project Management is another extremely desirable skill to have on your resume. Not only does it offer you the opportunity to report your accomplishments, it can also show that you have what it takes to work independently, under deadline and within budget: all words that managers love to hear. If you have some experience with project management, make sure to talk about it on your resume.

Young adults in general go through a great deal of growth, both physically as well as mentally throughout their young lives. Much of this growth is determined by elements of family life as well as outside elements like school. However, at no point in an adolescent’s life is development more important than during the teenage years.

The main reason for this is due to the fact that during development, young men and women end up making a lot of decisions that determine the career and educational path they are going to take in life. A teen that is exposed to positive elements of family and friends is going to have a more positive developmental experience than a teen who comes from a broken home. Below are some common elements that contribute to one’s personal development.

Home Life

As mentioned above, home life plays a vital role in overall development. Homes that are caring, with minute disputes between adults that can articulate their wants and needs are healthy. An example would be a young adult communicating that they desire to purchase a favorite pair of Rocawear pants and the parents supporting that decision accordingly. However, homes in which children and parents do not communicate is a proven contributing factor to negatively impacting teen development. A poor home environment where bad social and interpersonal habits are learned and reinforced can seriously impact career development.

Outside Environmental Factors

In addition to home life, environmental factors also play a role. Elements such as peer pressure, bullying and problems with authority in high school or college are among some of the most common contributing factors. The importance of stability at home comes in to play with these elements in providing the young adult with the tools necessary to make decisions when an occasion arises. Communication, above all other aspects is among the most important when it comes to personal and career development.

The interview process is most distressing for many job seekers, rating far worse than resume preparation or even the initial job hunting. Knowing what to wear, when to arrive, how to speak and how to act are only part of the challenge. In order to successfully emerge from the interview you must be prepared for the questions are you are most likely to be asked, and you must provide those answers with calm, collected and confident assurance.

Many interviewers like to lull their subjects into a false sense of security before snapping closed the interview question trap. For these interviewers, make sure that you don’t change your facial expression or bearing. You should still reflect the attitude of someone who is comfortable with where they are and what they are being asked. Especially beware the question concerning your strengths, as many potential employers will immediately follow up with a question about your weaknesses. Rather than admitting the mistakes you have made in jobs in the past, instead present an example of how you managed to overcome a weakness. You may say something like, ”In the past, I struggled with developing more patience with my co-workers. However, I have since grown in that area and I now look forward to teamwork experiences,” and provide an example.

Another scary interview question may concern your reasons for leaving past positions. You should never say anything negative about a former employer. Your current interviewer may know some of your ex-coworkers, and will have no problem imagining your saying negative things about him at some point in the future.
